Six years in Melbourne, then home to Noosa
Isla trained under a florist in Melbourne for six years before coming home to Noosa to open her own studio. Six years under one florist is a long apprenticeship in a trade where many people set up after a short course, and it shows in the things a bride notices only on the day — a bouquet that holds its shape through photographs, an arch that is still standing at the end of the night.
The Bloom Room has been trading on Hastings Street since 2019.
Weddings first, and the jam jars that keep the lights on
We do weddings mostly — that is where my heart is — but the everyday orders keep the lights on and the offcuts from the wedding buckets in a jam jar for someone having a bad Tuesday.
That is the honest shape of the studio. Bridal and event work is the focus, and it is what the consultations, the gallery and most of the calendar are for. The everyday arrangements and subscription bunches keep the studio running between weddings, and they are made from the same buckets.
A third of every arrangement, grown out the back
About a third of what we use is grown in the yard behind the studio — nobody else on the Coast can say that. Growing your own stems changes what a florist can do. Flowers cut the morning they are used have not travelled or sat in a wholesaler's cool room, so they open more slowly in the vase and last longer. It also means the palette leans seasonal: what is at its best in the garden that week finds its way into the work.
The other two thirds are gathered locally where possible.
Just Isla
There is no team here and no counter staff. Whoever you speak to at your consultation is the person who will make your flowers and set up your venue, and the person who answers the phone is the same one who grew the stems. The business is locally owned and operated, and everything that leaves the studio is made here by Isla.
